English Language and Literature Department

Founded in 2013, the Department of English is one of the newest operating departments of the Faculty of Languages and Literature which has retained its eminence for 10 years. The objective of the Department is not only to make students think differently but also to groom them in the way that enables them to connect the classroom with the outer world and the knowledge of literature with the real life.

During the 2013, freshmen classes in the under graduate level were started in the Department. The first novice lecturers who adorned the English Department were Mr. Basir Ahmad Yaad, Mr. Ahmad Wali Besmil, and Mr. Abdul Raziq Safi; and all of them were agreed on Mr. Besmil to institute English Department.

The Department has introduced various areas of study as per the needs and interests of the changing world. It concentrates on the students' strong english communication, linguistics, foundation in classical, British, American, and World Literature; also, it focuses on making students conversant with the contemporary strands of literary styles and theories. The course also worked in diverse areas such as, Academic and Critical Writing, Research, Teaching Methodology, and Translation.

The Department never ceased to produce students whose brilliance of merit is reflected not only by the consistent good results of the Department every year but also from the fact that they have found their careers in various walks of life. It has produced authors, poets, linguists, academicions, administrative heads, and cultural personalities. The students are also enthusiastic about co-curricular activities and often arrange cultural events. The success of the students and Department is constituted on the basis of a healthy and productive teacher-student relationship.

Vision

English Language and Literature Department continually tries to help students see themselves as professionals and as part of a discipline with skills and abilities which are valuable in the literature, publishing, linguistics, and undergraduate work. They embody compassion, empathy and respect for what every individual brings to the learning experience. They believe that all students can learn and that students' learning potential is unknown and not pre-determined. They believe that goal of the teacher is to develop students' minds as powerful thinkers and problem-solvers. They view education as a profession in which practice and theory interact continually and dynamically to guide research, pedagogy, and educational leadership.

Mission

The Department of English Language and Literature prepared highly qualified, caring and effective educators to meet the needs of students in diverse settings within the State of Paktia and beyond. The overall mission of the Department is to engage in writing, research, teaching methodology, and linguistics that advance their knowledge of the field through Creative Writing, Literature, Translation Studies, Rhetoric, Professional Writing; and to develop the english skills required to meet the needs of all students. Through their courses and field work, our students develop the dispositions that guide and support teaching and learning.

Aim

The Department of English has confidence to train their students in national and academic norms. They also try their best to educate the cultural, educational and professional students for their communities to serve, develop and recover the educational and cultural counties of the country.

GOAL

The goal of the Department of English language is educating students to read critically, write clearly and imaginatively, think logically, and speak articulately about literature and language. They also promote critical literacy, that is, the capacity to interpret, evaluate, and contextualize literary and social text. Additionally, they teach a historical sense of language and literatures in English in all their diversity to the multicultural student body from the state. Finally, leading students to realize how the expressive and analytical skills that they acquire and exercise in their study of English prepares them for a wide variety of meaningful professional employment opportunities upon graduatio
