Brief history of Paktia University:

Paktia University was established in response to requests from the local community, as formalized by decree number 4286, issued on 16/10/2003 by the head of the transitional government. The university commenced operations in 2004 with the establishment of the Faculties of Agriculture, and Education and Training. In 2008, Paktia University graduated its inaugural class of 35 students, who have since contributed to the community. The institution comprises scientific, administrative, and educational divisions, and is governed by the university chancellor in accordance with dominant national laws and regulations.

In 2010, under the authorization of the then-governing authority, the medicine, engineering, and law & political science faculties of Ariana University, a private institution in Peshawar, were integrated into Paktia University. These faculties have been functioning as part of Paktia University since 2012.

Following community needs and acting upon the university administration's recommendations, the Faculty of Language and Literature was founded in 2013, followed by the Faculty of Economics in 2014. Subsequently, the Faculty of Computer Science was established in 2020, and the Faculty of Sharia in 2014. Paktia University presently operates with a total of nine (9) faculties.

The faculties of Education and Language and Literature within the university offer robust night and in-service academic programs. The university distinguishes itself as a prominent educational institution by providing comprehensive resources, including a substantial information technology center, a well-appointed library, a dedicated quality assurance center, a counseling and career services center, a legal clinic, a healthcare facility, and a digital library.

Based on the institution's establishment in 2024, the university's staffing levels include 244 academic staff members, 135 administrative staff members, and 108 service staff members.
